Facilities and Services

The Club has two separate Har-Tru green clay tennis courts, each of which is totally enclosed. There is a mezzanine area overlooking the tennis courts which includes a small kitchen/snack bar and a large reception room. There are men’s and women’s changing facilities, a Staff office/pro shop, a small fitness/exercise area, indoor parking for bicycles, and on-site parking for approximately 15 cars.

The Club offers 10-day advance bookings, block bookings and game arranging services as well as tennis ladder competitions, lessons, clinics, junior programs and pro shop services, including racquet stringing.

Members and Associates enter the Club using their own separate key-fobs. There is a chit-based honour system for paying for food, beverages, clothing and equipment. Members and Associates and their guests are required to wear white tennis attire, including undergarments visible during play, on the tennis courts (no more than 10% of coloured trim per item). Shoes are excepted. Female players may wear solid, mid/dark-colored undershorts provided they are no longer than their shorts or skirt.

Our Club’s History

The Club officially opened on October 19, 1957. It was named after the Queen’s club in London, England.
April 1958
First Annual Club Championship held.
1959
First Interclub tournament held with the Montreal Indoor Club. Many of the Club’s early members played competitive tennis, with several playing for Davis Cup and holding Canadian champion titles.
1963
Federation Cup tennis was established. The Queen’s Club had 4 female players play on the team in the 1960’s.
1966
Adjacent properties bought for expansion.
Oct 1967
The “East” court was added to celebrate Canada’s centennial year.
May 1974
White tennis ball rule rescinded and yellow balls allowed (but not green or orange as they were considered too garish!).
The Queen’s Club continues to have several members play for Davis Cup and Fed Cup through the 1970’s.
This decade is often considered “the Golden Era” of tennis. Flamboyant tennis players helped make the sport popular with players outside of the traditional tennis clubs.
1991
The Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame is established. At least nine members of the Queen’s Club have been inducted.
1992
Sydney Hermant, founder of the Club dies.
1997
40th Anniversary of the Club celebrated with the publication of “Forty-Love”.
GameTime on-line booking software implemented at the Club.
2013
Interclub tournament with Montreal Indoor Tennis Club restarted.
2015
Heritage Toronto erects a sign on the south west corner of the property to call out the significance of the site in housing the former Toronto Skating Club.
2017
60th Anniversary of the Club celebrated with a 60’s attire theme.
2020
First year Club Championships not played due to Covid-19.

Membership

The Queen’s Club is a private member’s club, owned and operated by the members. We offer family and individual memberships when available.

Currently, our our membership and our wait list are closed. We don’t anticipate opening the wait list to new applicants until, at the earliest, September 2025. Please be aware that the wait time on our list is 3+ years. Feel free to contact us at that time.

Admission

Admission to membership is by sponsorship from a senior member along with a suitable reference from a second senior member. Sponsors and seconders must be active members. Potential members will be interviewed by no fewer than two members of the Membership Committee. If the applicant is considered to be suitable, the name is put forward for the approval of the Board of Directors.

When the application is approved at the Board level, the applicant is asked to complete the financial obligations of membership; an entrance fee is payable upon admission. Annual dues are billed to each member. Activity fees are billed monthly, based on the member’s use of the club’s facilities. There is no minimum monthly spending requirement.

Doubles
